We are pleased to announce registration is now open for the first BOKS Virtual Members’ Meeting of 2021. It will take place on Wednesday, March 3rd at 11:00-14:00 GMT using Zoom.

Having listened to your feedback, we have structured the meeting to include external speakers in concurrent sessions, and to maximise networking opportunities among members. We have also prioritised simplicity by keeping the entire event to a short 3-hour period in a single Zoom meeting and utilising break-out rooms.

While we appreciate that for some members the timing will be difficult, we have scheduled the event to maximise cross-region interactions. Following this first event of the year, we look forward to working with members within regions to schedule smaller regional meetings that are of course at a more convenient time.

Keynote Speakers
We will be utilising breakout rooms within the event to give you a choice of which of the concurrent keynote session you will join on the day, while both sessions will be available on our website after the event.

James Barbour – Ethical Standards
James is Director of Policy Leadership at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS). He is also a member of Accountancy Europe (AE)’s Professional Ethics and Competencies Working Group and the ICAS representative at the AE Members’ Assembly. He will be providing a ‘live from the table’ update on ethical standards.

In 2018, the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) issued its revised and restructured Code of Ethics. Since that time, it has made further changes to the Code, although these revisions have yet to take effect. This session will focus on the revisions to the Code post the publication of the 2018 IESBA Code and current key IESBA projects.

Mr Barbour will cover:

The Objectivity of Engagement Quality Reviewers and Other Reviewers
The Role and Mindset Expected of the Professional Accountant
Alignment of Part 4B of the Code to ISAE 3000 (Revised)
Revisions to the Non-Assurance Services Provisions
Revisions to the Fees Provisions
Current proposals in relation to the definition of a PIE and Listed Entity
Technology
Covid-19 Related Guidance

This promises to be a very engaging session with plenty of insight to be gleaned from a trusted expert on the subject.

Are the leaders in your organisation tapping into their employees’ highest potential?

In an economy where competitive edge relies on the skills and knowledge of the workers inside your organisation, today’s leaders must know how to help individuals unleash their talents. But within this radically new paradigm, traditional motivation methods are outdated and ineffective. if workers are to make their highest and best contribution, they need leaders who understand what motivates them, what matters most to them, and what their strongest abilities are.

Breakout Rooms
We have scheduled an hour of roundtable networking sessions using break-out rooms to run either side of our keynote presentations. The first of these sessions will be formed of three 20 minute randomised roundtable discussions. The second hour will be divided into two sections; the first 15-minutes will be a group discussion on the key takeaways from the two keynote presentations, followed by roundtables discussions organised by regions and sub-regions.

Conference Fees
While it is necessary to charge a small fee to cover the cost of running this event, the pricing is set per member firm, rather than per delegate, and we encourage you to share the details of this event with everybody at your firm. No fees need to be paid upfront. Firms in attendance will be invoiced after the event.
